Oils Portrait Painting Study

About 2 years ago, I found this nice piece of wooden board while I was on my trip to Japan. Something I like to do is to always keep an eye out on new objects to paint on...guitars, skateboards, vinyls, antique old book covers, etc.

This past Friday I found some time to finally paint with oil paint again. A painting study of a portrait for fun, wanted to focus on tones.

I was uploading images on Twitter during the night of #FridayNightArtDorks (a group for artists to share art on friday nights) Here are the images throughout the night, documenting my process so far. Next step would be to start the color stage.

thanks Lisa, this one i got in Japan.

You can find some in Home Depot, you can even have them cut the pieces up for you at your desired dimensions.

the final image really snaps out...also cool that you brought a piece of wood back from Japan, adds meaning.

"keep an eye out on things to paint on...guitars"

have you uploaded any of your work on guitars?

Hello hello! That looks amazing! I love her hair and expression ^_^.

I wouldn't know where to start with wooden panels, I guess I would be afraid to mess it up -_-'. I need to get more confidence with my own abilities before I start to experiment with other materials haha.

Thanks for sharing this!

Ciao TJ

Intentionally: Its really nice to paint on different surfaces and objects. I have not fully painted a guitar yet actually but i have prepared one for painting with textures. I hope to get around it whenever i have the chance.

you can see it here:

TJ Lubrano: Thanks TJ, glad you like it. You should try the wooden panels..whats great about it is that, if you don't like the painting, you can always gesso over it or if you are paitning with oils, rub the paint off with turp.
