First Mini Munny

I've always wanted to customize a munny, dunny, labbit, and/or maybe a bax bear. Today i finally couldn't help but spend a short time to start off painting this mini munny i bought from Silver Snail last week.

A progress shot and what happened after the first hour or so of painting it.
Waiting for the first coat of paint to dry right now, will update with final result later on! Wish me luck.

Boston

So this past weekend we went to Boston for the convention there.
It was an awesome trip, we were able to fund-raise a good amount of money for the Illustration Grad Show. I really love Boston now...lots of great people and all the great food...wow. The only downside of the trip was that my luggage broke...haha i have bad luck with luggages...

Anyway here are some photos of the weekend.

Busy, no sleep!

Sorry for lack of updates this past week or so. I have been busy balancing my time with school, work and the time for the Japanese Exchange student i took these past 2 weeks.

Even though it was hectic and a bit crazy. I had a super good time with the Japanese exchange student who stayed with me the past 2 weeks. It was a great experience to show them around Toronto, learn about their culture as well sharing my own. I spent many late nights hearing their crazy stories and the wisdom they brought with them from japan.

This is a little gift my exchange student gave me as a farewell gift. Really a beautiful doll set.

Also been doing some contract work and helping an agency with their music/promo video.

Tomorrow I am also heading to Boston for a convention. I will have a table there selling some prints. I will update with new work on this blog as soon as I return from Boston.
Some new paintings are on the way.

Chaos

Here is a little preview of one of 3 paintings I've been working on collaboratively with Elise Trinh recently. Its been a pleasure to work collaboratively this time with her on a book of short comics and artwork in the theme of 'chaos'. The book will feature a total of 14 artists. Chaos will printed and ready for sale next month. It will be around 200 pages and will be sold for approx. $20-25 each. If interested in purchasing a copy please feel free to let me know.

This piece displayed is the final piece of the 3 in the book.

New work and Annex zoo show photos

Haven't posted any art in a while..so here is something today. It is the final version of the first and second of the yin and yang collab i am working on with jack. These were also the pieces we contributed to the show yesterday. We will probably at least do a third one soon to continue the series.

Medium: Acrylic on Panel

The Annex Zoo show turned out to be a great success, lots of energy, music and art all in one. It was awesome to see such a crowd. Anyways here are some photos of the show.

Annex Zoo Show Tomorrow

Alright, nothing much to update today. But just a reminder that the Annex Zoo Charity show is happening tomorrow at 8pm. Me and jack are just in the process of finishing off the paintings for tomorrow.

In the mean time...i had the pleasure to win these two pieces from the art jam auction. They are hung nicely in my room now. :) Yes...i'm kinda a collector deep down inside..

Can't wait for the next art jam to happen.

A night of Art and Music

I will be contributing to an upcoming charity event of art and music this coming Saturday (March 1st) organized by my buddy Tyrel. A very exciting event as lots of great artists will be contributing there and lots of things are planned for this event.

Reading from his blog, it'll be a gallery/concert type event in Toronto that will be advertised on NOW and other places. Some big bands will be performing, some breakdancing, and TONS of artwork everywhere, an art raffle.

Definitely check it out if you're in the area!

It gets better...lol

I got an email back from the guys who used the cloud image i posted here already the other day. They replied saying it was only an 'accident' and they were too inspired to used the image. Heres what they said... "But please notice, that the Version which was shown in the web was an earlyer version, the Final version was modified by the Artist - but it was my fault not to realize that it was too close to yours."

"Please let us explain how this was caused:
We commissioned an illustrator to do the cover artwork for this book, but
the publisher was not happy with the look of Cosmo Hill. So we sent
different head of boys, which i've collected at our favourite artist-pool
deviant-art.com, to them to choose the right look. For the realization we
contacted the illustrator again an showed him there decision."

My friend told me to post this because it was way too funny. Anyways here are the new images they sent me, its too funny not to share i guess. lol.

Note: The image they sent me this time of the cloud is not even the original, it seems that they already painted over the nose portion of it...and colour adjusted the hair? haha

Vinyl Graffiti Show, another piece

So tomorrow night is the opening of the vinyl graffiti show. Its going to be a night of fun at the labyrinth.

Anyway, me and my friend Nick recently had the chance to collaborate on a 3-cover connecting piece, which will also be at the labyrinth show opening.

In other news, a group of us recently put up a small show at the student gallery at Sheridan. Photos of some of the work that was up is posted at the official Sheridan illustration blog which can be found here. http://ills.wordpress.com/

Again, the opening reception of the show is at the Labyrinth Store on Feb 9th from 7-10pm. The show will be up for a month.

Hmm......mutilization...

So today, someone sent me mail about this...

Apparently, someone took one of my old fan-art pieces...and decided to flip it and mutilize it a bit to use it on a book cover...hmm...

I find it a bit amusing how they did it actually. Look at his sexy body with that red and black suit. haha
Now, this piece is only original art but the character is not copyrighted by me, so probably not much I can/should do anyway. Just thought it was a bit funny.
Looks like he/she decided to photoshop the other 2 characters in too...all have a different style.....

Heres a screenshot of the site. Wow this book is like 15 EUROS, I almost want to buy one.

The piece of Cloud from FFAC I did 2 years ago.

Quick sketch update.

Sorry for the lack of updating the past week or so, things have been quite busy over here. Recently had the pleasure to display two of my pieces along with a few friends (Elise, Hieng, Dave, Hyein, Daisy, and StudioQube) in the student gallery here at Sheridan. It was fun and the display turned out pretty nice, thanks to Julia Breckenreid for making this student gallery possible.

The show was just taken down a day or two ago. I will update with pictures soon.

Anyway, what do you think of when you see the image below? What word do you think of? Its part of a rebus I am working on for 'Rethink' whom are promoting the grad show for us this year.

And.. here are some sketches I did while I was on the subway on the weekend and from my monday lecture.

Stay tuned, more to come soon :)

Rogers Interview Update

Thanks to everyone for the feedback on the website, i will be changing many things soon to make it better. Recently quite a few asked about the rogers interview thing i did, thanks for asking. I am actually a little embarassed by it cause I couldn't finish doing what i wanted to show on the show. I admit I was a bit nervous, haha. Originally, I was going to have them prepare the surface with gesso and with some ink texture on it. Then have them draw something with the marker on top and maybe a little bit of photocopy transfer. But after they finished gessoing the board...they told me there was only like 1 minute left, so i told them to draw on it...cause the board looked dried to me..LOL
But...it wasn't yet...I knew I should've done something simpler...well.. now i know.

Overall though it was a really fun experience, i definitely learned a lot from it. If it ever happens again, i'll know what I need to change and what i can do better. Anyways here is the video.

First week was awesome, lots of exciting projects. I am very excited this year to do some new and original work.

Personal Portfolio Website

I've been working the past few days to try to get my site up. Tried to keep it simple.
So heres a temporary launch...for my website.

There is still a lot I'd like to change and tweak but for now...here it is. http://www.peterchanart.com/

Hope it loads ok for most of you.

Also here is another 'near final' update of the red wolf hood painting. I am putting it off for a bit. I still want to touch it up here and there some more..but a bit busy right now to do it.

Busy time and Rogers Interview

First off, Happy new year everyone.

2007 passed by so fast. Can't believe its already 2008. Lots of new plans in this new year. Lots of work i want to get done and new things i want to try out. I don't really have any special new years resolution, but to work harder and keep drawing and painting.

I am currently working on my personal portfolio website, hopefully i can have it up by monday or latest tuesday morning. At least a simple layout and a few pieces of work on the website.

I am also excited and happy to say that I recently received a call from Rogers Television, whom invited me as a guest to go on their show called 'Daytime' on January 8th, this upcoming Tuesday!
They told me they got my card when i was at the Heroes Painting even in the summer. So they want me to maybe do a demo to teach the hosts some painting and perhaps and interview to talk about new work and the upcoming events. Exciting stuff, hopefully I don't make stupid mistakes, haha.

Again, the show is called Daytime and will air on January 8th at 11am, then a rerun on 4pm, and then again on 11pm.

Rogers channel is channel # 63 for me. But that might be different depending on where you live.

Hope everyone had a great holiday and a great and exciting new year.
I will update with new work soon. XD

Labbits Labbits Labbits and Red Wolf Hood Update

Labbits are coming to town!
haha..a bit late...maybe. Happy Boxing Day everyone. Hope most of you got what you want. Its been a very long day for me, walked around downtown Toronto all day and night!

You've prob heard about the Munny's and Dunny's. Today, while shopping for boxing day...I was able to get my hands on some of these Labbits from Urban Outfitters on Queen Street, Toronto. They were 75% off from the original price because they are christmas labbits, but you can easily remove the christmas accessories and they can turn back into normal labbits! (yes, the Christmas canes are removable) Super deal! So... I bought a few, some of these aren't mine actually..some are for friends and one is for my sis. But yea..go check em out the next few days if you want, they have lots of em..they should be still on sale so you can still get one i think.

Should be fun when i have the time to paint them and make my custom Labbits!

And its been a while...since i've updated progress on the Red Wolf Hood Painting. Here's another progress shot..

Lots of things still need to be worked on, and also still need to decide on overall lighting of the piece. Lots of detailing to do as well...hopefully finishing this up soon.
