Opening reception:
Thursday September 13, 2012 / 7 - 11pm
Sometimes we get stuck. We deal with our everyday little things and our
big things. Time begins to blur. Without us realizing, our lives have
become an incoherent mishmash, a never ending cycle. Momentarily, people
are able to break free and take gulps of fresh air in a cathartic
moment but quickly plunge back, still living the same repetitious
patterns.
This body of work represent memories of living in
perpetual roller coaster 'loops' and fantasies of escapism. I want to
show how malleable our nostalgia can be, changing what we remember to
make us feel how we’re living today is OK. It’s not. In the end we’re
just moving backwards and sometimes we get stuck.

Unforgettable ephemeral moments...
Ever experienced an unforgettable ephemeral moment?
On a walk to the park, seeing the landing of a dragonfly right in front of our eyes..
Appreciating it's beauty, intricacy, and fragility, we seek a second look. On this second take, it's already gone.
The show is fast approaching.
Only about a week til then, it will be just like a dragonfly. Landing for that short moment.

Drawing for 'LOOPS'
Sometimes, you try to remember and follow your dreams when you wake up. When I am lucky enough, I am able to write down my dreams before I forget... but why?
Why is the fantasy so attractive?
That makes me wonder.

Using graphite for this one...

white dew, marble steps
"white dew, marble steps"
14'' x 20'' Acrylics, inks and pencil on paper
collaboration piece by Harvey Chan and myself.
Here's the final piece I'm contributing to 'Unworldly Reunion', a show which opens tonight in Toronto, Canada.
white dew, marble steps is about personal growth in our own cultural backgrounds. More specifically, it is about an Asian growing-up in Canada. The Chinese characters on the grid paper is an excerpt from 'Marble Steps Complaint', a poem written by one of the great Chinese poets Li Bai. This piece is influenced by the themes of growth, mystery and change found in many of Li Bai's poems.
Growing up, I remember dreading Chinese school every weekend. (If you're Chinese-Canadian you know what I'm talking about!) I had to memorize many poems in order to get a passing grade. I hated it. I did not understand why we had to learn about the past, it just wasn't relevant to me. What influenced me was the gloss of popculture…
As I grew older I asked myself who am? What are my origins? This painting is a return to my Chinese heritage which I was once so involved in as a child.
Time:
August 9th, 2012. 7pm - 12am. ONE NIGHT ONLY
Artists:

Renewed Piece of History
Work in Progress piece. I was walking around one day to the Japanese antique store and found this old piece of Japanese paper. As I was walking back to the hotel, the paper was so dried that it started cracking. To preserve it, once I went home I tried collaging it onto a painting that I am working on.
You never know what you might find in an old items/antique store, on a bright sunny day.
I love finding old items, it is an adventure every time. :)

Personal Wednesday: Continued Process
Its Personal Wednesday!
Here are some photos of the piece in it’s finishing stages, adding some finishing touches.
Recently,
I’ve been very inspired by the ideas of astrology and dreams. The
connectedness of nature, thoughts, and memories that manifests out of
our mind. I will talk about this more as I post the upcoming paintings I
have lined up to finish.
I should also be posting the final image of this one soon.

New Painting - "Resting on the Ancients" & Post Spectrum
Hey guys, just came back from an awesome weekend in Kansas City at Spectrum Fantastic LIVE.
Met lots of great artists and had some of the best conversations with the people at the event. Thank you everyone who bought prints and who came out to say hello, as well as the awesome awards ceremony put on by the Spectrum crew! It was great seeing old friends as well as meeting new ones.
It was especially great hanging out with great people and talents like Ryan Graff, Eric Fortune, Joao Ruas, Eric Joyner, Felipe Echevarria, Jeff Simpson, Keita Morimoto, Jason Felix, Justin Gerard, Cory Godbey, Jason Edmiston, Anthony Kosak, Wayne Reynolds, Travis Louie, Brandt Peters, Kathy Olivas, Doug Gregory, Greg Manchess, and Jean Baptiste Monge. There may have been many more, I apologize if I missed any names.
I am looking forward to next year when they put on another Spectrum LIVE event again.
Things are busy after I got back and have a few deadlines, I will be posting and sharing some Spectrum photos that I took at the event, hopefully really soon.
Below is a painting I had at the event, that I can finally show now.

"From Then To Now" Oil Painting & Spectrum Fantastic Art LIVE!
8'' x 10''
Oils and Gold Leaf on Wood
Here is a new Oil Painting I recently finished and varnished.
Framed
The idea of this piece is to juxtapose new and old culture, the traditional japanese elegant kimono with contemporary earphones as a western oil painting. How the times have changed, but some things remain to be remembered.
Thank you to Spectrum, this will be included in their upcoming 19th Annual.
I will also be displaying it at the Spectrum Fantastic Art LIVE Event coming up in Kansas City on May 18-20 (This weekend).
Here is a flyer of the show from Imaginism Studios. Click here for more info.
